After 2 weeks of buzz I finally caved in and decided to watch the much talked about videoclip. Frankly, I don't understand what the noise is about.
Yes it's sexy, but no more scandalous than Briney Spears' Slave for you several years ago. Yes it has eccentric outfits and makeup, but no more so than a Burton movie. It is highly stylized and features women killers but it doesn't hold to anything Quentin Tarantino, Pussy Wagon or not. The product placement is no worse than any movie (I actually can't recall any in particular), and when it comes to glamorizing female prisons, I liked Chicago much better. Those shoes were horrible. Oh, yeah, and it had lots of hints of lesbianism. So what? IMO, people who consider this better than Thriller don't have a clue. Thriller felt like a real short movie, this one felt like a clip, that's all. I thought Paparazzi was actually a more interesting clip story-wise.
And the song doesn't quite stand out for me eitehr, so I'll stick with my usual favorites from Lady Gage like Bad Romance :-D. I don't like the clip for that either, too plastic-y (except for a few gorgeous close-up shots on her vulnerable-looking face with pale, subdued makeup), so I usually watch a K/S version like this :). And if you want reasons to respect Lady Gaga as an artist, watch the jazzy version of Poker face below. That one left me awestrck as I realized there actually was a singer worth the name behind the flash and the sequins.
