I'm so happy this is finally working! I've had this trip in the plans for over two years, ever since I learned there were vampire balls and cemetary visits organized in NOLA around Halloween and with my old friend J, who's also read a lot of vampire stories set there, thought it would be so cool for us to go there at that time. And of course there's the French heritage that permates the city; it makes the lure all the stronger :).
We were supposed to go in 2008 when I came back from Europe, but she e-mailed me over the summer to tell me she wouldn't have the money - so I promptly spent my share on Europe souvenirs :) This year she's had a promotion and a raise, so we got together Wednesday at a Cajun restaurant (de rigueur ;)) to discuss possible dates, and the next day sho woke me from my afternoon nap to tell me her boss said yes :-D. To us, French Quarter, plantations, vampire balls, jazz concerts, and nightlife!! My friend came over this morning and we spent several hours comparing sites for plane tickets, debated hostels vs hotels and now that she's left, I'm looking at tourist attractions and tour companies. I'm salivating over the old-fashioned tramways, the bayou tours and Ghosts & Spirits tour, and I found a fantastic 2-hour steamboat lunch cruise for only $34.50 including the meal of salad, fried chicken, jambalaya and death-by-chocolate brownies. OMG!
And of course, we'll be going to a Halloween Vampire Ball. The Anne Rice fanclub one is on Friday night, and there's an Endless Night Vampire Ball on Saturday. We're currently leaning more toward that one because it's set in the French Quarter and the name is more exciting :-D. The bid dilemma will be what to wear; my she-devil costume of two years ago would probably fit right in, but besides the fact I can't bring all my hair stuff for the one night, since I saw the dress code I've started dreaming of a lush, decadent period dress or a Moulin Rouge dancer outfit... something debauched and sexy ;)) We'll see what I can find!!

Yyayayayayay!!!!
Hey, I didn't remember you were from around there!! :D We should be going from Oct 26 to Nov 1st - less time than I would have liked to visit everything, but still better than nothing :-D It could be cool to meet up! I'm sure you have a lot of good tips on the city ;). I still have no idea of the tour schedules and of course I'll have to talk to my friend, but we'll see if it can be done! Nearly two hours by car is still a long ride for you. I'll keep you updated on my travel plans!
I am from around the area. It would be cool if we could meet up... but no biggie. It is okay if we don't. I just wanted to let you know I am in the area! Hugs to you honey!!!
