I held my Star Trek TOS marathon with C last night and it was a resounding success :-D Program was slightly changed, as I had a sudden urge to rewatch This Side of Paradise, which wasn't in the plans initially, and it was already late enough that we couldn't go beyond 5 episodes, so I had to drop City on the Edge of Forever - between it and Amok Time, the choice was easy *g*. Rest was Errand of Mercy first, then Paradise, then Trouble with Tribbles, then Mirror Mirror, and then Amok Time, which was a good closure I think - emotionally intense, great exploration of Spock's character, and highest slashy content ever :-D.
Afterwards my friend said she didn't expected she'd like it so much but she thought it was really great, that she loved the variety in the episodes (of course, I had chosen my sample with care ;) and better, she commented on how she loved "those looks Kirk and Spock keep giving each other". Big inner SQUEEE on my part!! So of course I dragged her to the computer room and had her watch "The Look of Love" video (which made her laugh a lot at how impossibly perfect the song are the vid excerpts are for each other), then the Amok Time Paraphrase Theater which forced me to explain about Rodenberry's TMP footnote to explain "t'hy'la", all the while dropping hints about K/S which she acknowledged made lots of sense after what she'd seen. So. Cool. I might be able to make a K/S convert out of her - and even if she never truly gets into slash, I'd still have opened the eyes of one more person. Hehehe. :-D Plus, she also thinks WS has a fabulous ass. I knew there were reasons we were such good friends :-D
She also said she'd definitely like to watch more Trek episodes. Honey, I've got listings for 5 more of those marathons if you want :-D Next time I'd definitely go for City and Operation Annihilate which was in my original listing of 6, then Devil which is another favorite, and Miri because it has the slashiest look EVER... and umm, probabkly either Babel (because it's great and deals with diplomacy, which is again different from what we've seen), or Piece of the Action because it's so fun. I'd love to show her Tomorrow is Yesterday, but 2 time-travels in the same evening would be a bit much. Although Annihilate and Devil would give me two "creature" shows already, so perhaps I could drop one and watch both Babel and PotA... except crap, I just remembered I wanted to show her Enemy Within too.... *pondering furiously*
Of course, part of the success of the evening and my friend's good mood probably relies with the fantastic food we had. I managed to find my new favorite maple & Chipotle pangasius at the grocecy store in the next district, which I served with a coco milk rice (note: cook longer with more water and a little spices the next time), and my trademark black bean soup as an appetizer. I also found the ingredients for my irresistible supplices de Léonce at the bakery at the corner of the street and served us a piece with some delicious Bilboquet Trichamps sorbet between two episodes; I later took out the nut pste truffles with some frozen apple cider I'd almost forgotten I'd bought at the last Passion Chocolate salon. Fricking awesome. My friend was totally impressed and I'm very happy with myself too.
After all, showing false modesty when none is felt, or needed, would be illogical. :-p
